Quality work and responsibility arise from the corporate culture

High quality and shared responsibility form the basis of our family business and also serve as a basis for certifications. Security of supply and the long careers of our employees are the result of an internally adopted attitude: things are done together in a high-quality manner, with continuous development in mind.

Leo Laine Oy operates in accordance with the values of a family company and quality, environmental and occupational health and safety certifications. Mr. Juho Kauppi is responsible for management systems, Mrs. Oona Rantanen for the implementation of environmental responsibility and Mr. Mikko Nurmi for occupational health and safety management. The implementation of quality and responsibility includes regular meetings with different configurations and informing customers, stakeholders and the entire staff about them.

It is part of our company culture that every employee can take a stand on our operations, and discussion is natural without hierarchy. With the way we operate in our company’s DNA, we have created the foundation and achieved our current position as an internationally operating company.

Our employees are the foundation of quality work

Our machinery is regularly renewed, but even the most modern equipment at most facilitates the maintenance of high quality or speeds up serial work to ensure security of supply.
The real basis for quality work is the invaluable expertise and attitude of our employees. Customer-specific requirements vary, and we adapt our operations flexibly to them. The most critical stage in maintaining high quality is the work of the vacuum moulding machine operator; he knows the characteristics of „his/her own machine“ and knows how the machine meets the production needs or what kind of quality maintenance is needed to maintain the required level of the product. Professional pride is the key word for our staff.

In practice, vacuum moulders, fitters, or final assemblers are the inspectors of the product’s dimensional accuracy and visual quality. They stack and package the plastic products for shipment, so they are the last in our production chain to see the products before the customer.

A sign of their careful work is our security of supply, which is praised by our customers, with a very low complaint rate.
Surprising situations can still happen; there may be a quality deviation in the raw material, the robot cell program does not work as expected, or a human error occurs in the finishing. All quality deviations are recorded and analyzed. We get to the heart of the problem and ensure that quality is restored to the required level and preventive actions are taken to prevent the error from recurring.

The cornerstones of our quality work:

Environmental responsibility in the manufacture of plastic products

Environmental responsibility has been part of our everyday life since the 1980s. Today, we recycle 100% of the production side streams. Waste reduction, sorting and recycling are key objectives in all our operations – in production, logistics and in the office. For mixed waste, we aim for zero level through accurate sorting.

Reducing energy consumption and other environmental impacts is reflected, for example, in the utilization of waste heat from machines, the energy efficiency of modern machines and the conversion of lighting sources to LED lights. The electricity we buy is produced from renewable, non-fossil energy sources.
In our own plastic sheet production, we have tested the raw material made of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. We want to make sure that we can continue to manufacture durable plastic products from recycled materials. Thanks to this production experience, our customers can also become part of the post-consumer plastic recycling chain.

Our environmental responsibility also includes machine-specific monitoring of waste material. The better we optimize the use of the material, the less we need virgin raw material – and the less it needs to be transported, produced, consumed and recycled.

ISO 14001 environmental management system standard:

Occupational health and safety are a common concern for all staff

The implementation and development of occupational health and safety are closely linked to the values and practices of our family company. In addition to occupational safety training, statutory obligations and certification requirements, we invest in proactive measures to prevent near misses and accidents.
Open discussion and observations in the midst of everyday work, as well as our way of doing occupational safety walks, complement development plans and static risk assessment. The walks provide an acute overall picture, make it easier to maintain safety, and keep the occupational safety organization up to date on issues, needs, and development aspirations that affect well-being at work.

Our preventive actions have proven effective: at best, we have achieved 837 consecutive accident-free days. At the end of July 2025, the number of accident-free days was 180. There have been no serious accidents in our production, and our goal is to minimize even the smaller, so-called „plaster accidents“.

The same principle applies to occupational safety as to our other activities: everyone has the right and the opportunity to report their observations with a low threshold. We encourage our employees to actively make observations about occupational safety – whether they concern work or protective equipment or smaller details. The work community also takes into account in the middle of the tasks, if there is something to be taken into account in the way a colleague works safely.

ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system:

Quality and responsibility in partnerships

We require responsible action from suppliers of goods and materials. The criteria are also recorded in the “Supplier Requirements” document. Responsibility and sustainable development also apply to our international operations. When purchasing materials, we receive a product quality analysis certificate from the suppliers. When the measurement results are within the defined reference values, the quality requirements of the raw material are met.

In Finland, ethical activities are at a high level internationally, but if necessary, we provide reports on required topics. We make sure that the quality and responsibility chain works.

We adhere to ethical principles, laws and regulations, and the company’s values in all our operations. Certifications are a verification of the quality and responsibility we have implemented, which we have lived up to for decades.
